CARLOS BELLIDO

Carlos Bellido is a multi-disciplinary artist exploring narrative storytelling through the practices of film, video, photography, and painting. Guided by personal curiosity and self-expression, his work engages with broader themes such as political and social change, religion, and cultural identity. These ideas emerge, however, through depictions of the mundane, captured in a spontaneous, unfiltered way that embraces the rawness of the ordinary.

Memory is central to Carlos’s process. By focusing on individual figures, Carlos highlights not what the characters possess, but what they relinquish, creating a quiet sense of absence and vulnerability. He frames his subjects in quiet moments of searching, seeking meaning and grounding amidst the uncertainties of everyday life. The emotional states that arise - raw, complex and sometimes undefinable - form a continuous cycle throughout his body of work.

Through minimalist settings and an uncontrived approach, Carlos’s invites viewers to see themselves in the work, leaving space for subjective and personal interpretations, even confusion. His practice is unapologetic in its embrace of the ordinary, revealing both the beauty and complexity woven into the fabric of day to day life and lived experience.

Carlos was trained at the RCA and his work has been showcased in film festivals such as LesGaiCineMad LGBTQA film festival in Spain (2015), and in galleries such as LAFRESH Gallery Madrid (2015), Southwark Park Gallery London (2018), Whitechapel Gallery, London (2019) .
